Remarkable Jobs transfers to employee ownership

Recruitment agency Remarkable Jobs has transferred ownership of the business to an employee ownership trust (EOT), in order to share business success with staff.

Based in Reading and specialising in recruitment for the pharmaceutical, biotech and life science industries, Remarkable Jobs was founded in 2014. It currently has seven employees, including three senior leaders, one non-executive trustee, two resourcers and one part-time admin.

The move to employee ownership was made in order to ensure staff benefit from their work and play a greater role in shaping the future direction of the business. Daily operations will remain unchanged, but Remarkable Jobs aims to reinforce engagement and commitment to long-term business goals.

Natasha Bye, founder and director of Remarkable Jobs, retained 40% of the business’ shares and will remain director.

Bye said: “I believe in rewarding those who have been instrumental in the growth of Remarkable Jobs over the past decade. Giving our employees accountability for their own aspirations and careers within the company was a priority.

“With an Employee Ownership Trust, we can accelerate growth while protecting our team. Moving forward, every employee will have a voice, bringing new ideas, perspectives, and passion to the table.”

Independent law firm Brabners advised the transition, represented by senior associate Daniel Finn. In 2022, the firm advised on 14 similar transactions.

Bye added: “We pride ourselves on providing an alternative service to high-street recruiters, built on time spent getting to know our clients and what drives them to succeed.

“It would not be possible to deliver such a service without the commitment and expertise of our employees, and after 10 successful years in business we feel that it’s fitting to reward and recognise this contribution by moving to an employee-owned model.

“We’re thankful to the team at Brabners for providing the expertise to secure a deal that sets us up for a bright future, driven by the ideas, perspectives and passion of our employee team.”

Finn said: “The uncertainty of the past few years has seen EOTs become an increasingly popular proposition, with the employee-owned model protecting the culture and independence of businesses, which in turn makes them more resilient and better equips them for growth.

“With this in mind, we’re thrilled to be able to continue to assist growing businesses such as Remarkable on their employee ownership journey and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the years to come.”

He added: “It was fantastic working with Natasha because not only was she approachable and pragmatic throughout but also, it was apparent from the outset how committed she was to the principles of employee ownership.”

Remarkable Jobs’ existing suite of benefits include a commission structure, annual bonuses, quarterly nights out and trips away, take-away and prosecco Fridays, with non-alcoholic options, unlimited holidays provided targets are hit, a Perkbox benefits platform and flexible working hours.
