Holland & Barrett has been awarded menopause accreditation in recognition of the workplace support it provides to employees.
The health and wellness company is offering comprehensive health training, including menopause education, to more than 4,000 staff across the business. They also have access to an eLearning module on menopause, which aims to educate and boost awareness of the issue among the workforce.
To enhance the support it provides, the high-street retailer has developed a Guide to Menopause. This signposts available internal services and offers information and advice on discussing the condition and requesting related provisions.
Staff can also book free consultations with a menopause health nurse for guidance and the company has also trained 50 mental health first aiders who can provide further support. Additionally, complimentary counselling is accessible through Holland & Barrett’s employee assistance programme, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Maria Anderson, chief people officer at Holland & Barrett, said the business was “incredibly proud” to have achieved the menopause friendly accreditation. She commented: “We believe in supporting our colleagues throughout all stages of their lives and menopause is no exception. We understand the impact that menopause can have on individuals, both physically and emotionally, and we are committed to providing the necessary support and resources to help our colleagues navigate this time with greater ease.”
Launched by Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace, The Menopause Friendly Accreditation sets standards for employers to adhere to which demonstrate a commitment to establishing a positive and inclusive working environment. An independent panel assesses them across six main areas, including culture, policies and practices, training, engagement, facilities and evaluation.
Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace, added: “Holland & Barrett has undertaken a huge amount of work in order to be accredited as a menopause friendly employer and I congratulate the whole team for its focus and dedication. I also applaud the way that Holland & Barrett is actively cascading its knowledge and expertise to customers and the wider community. This is admirable and will no doubt help many other people speak up and seek help to manage their menopause symptoms.”
