West Midlands Fire Service is officially the UK’s most inclusive employer, according to a new report.
The organisation ranked first on the top 50 list compiled by Inclusive Companies for demonstrating their commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I).
Wayne Brown, chief fire officer, said: “This is a phenomenal achievement. Recognition like this does not happen by accident. It reflects the fantastic work of everyone in West Midlands Fire Service and Staffordshire and West Midlands Fire Control.
“To be named number one for a second year is a clear validation of how we are working to harness the power of diversity within our workforce, to provide the very best service to the diverse communities of the West Midlands.
“The journey to being a truly inclusive organisation is long. It requires constant innovation and honest reflection to drive improvement. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is firmly embedded in our cultural DNA.”
This year’s Top 50 Inclusive UK Employer list also included UK Power Networks, Touchstone Support, Hastings, Moneysupermarket Group, Mott MacDonald, Capgemini UK and E.ON, which all made the top 10.
The index, which has been running for eight years, is judged by an independent group of D&I experts who look at factors such as age, religion, disability, LGBT, gender, race and faith. The panel identifies best practice and innovation across all sectors in terms of establishing inclusive and diverse workplaces.
Paul Sesay, founder and CEO, Inclusive Companies, said: “We work closely with organisations to create cultural transformation that ensures diversity and inclusion are embedded into everything they practice and the IT50 recognises those employers who are getting this right.”
Facilities management business Mitie also made the top 50 inclusive employers list for the sixth year running.
Jasmine Hudson, chief people officer, Mitie, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be listed as one of the UK’s Top 50 Inclusive Employers for the sixth consecutive year. This recognition is testament to our extensive efforts and commitment to make Mitie a truly diverse and inclusive place to work. We’re a business that encourages all colleagues to bring their authentic selves to work every day, whatever their background, there is a place for everyone here at Mitie.”
