Unum UK has reported a 91 percent surge in registrations for its digital health and wellbeing app Help@hand in the past 12 months compared with the previous year.

The app, which has registered 335,000 users since it launched in 2019, also reported a boom in user interactions in the past 12 months, which the provider said were up 266 percent.

More than half of these interactions, 53 percent, were with practical life management services.

In the 12 months from July 2023, users booked 138,243 consultations through the app. Two-fifths of these sessions (42 percent) were for remote GP appointments and 40 percent were related to mental health.

Unum said that the significant rise in employee engagement over the past year was interesting because more than half of the interactions were for non-medical services, such as getting practical support through the 24/7 helpline.

“Interestingly, we are also seeing a significant number of employees using the app to take a proactive and preventative approach to health and wellbeing, with more than 8,500 users seeking out lifestyle, nutrition or personal training sessions,” said John Hyde, chief marketing officer at Unum UK.

A survey of app users showed that 93 percent agreed that the GP they saw via Help@hand dealt with their concerns on the day, and nine out of 10 agreed they would recommend the app to a colleague or family member.

“Help@hand is supporting more people to take charge of their complete health, leading to a healthier, happier and more resilient workforces,” Hyde said.

“As we mark the app’s five-year anniversary, we look forward to building on its success, expanding the service and delivering even better care for our clients and their employees.”
