Self-funded healthcare rises as ‘anxious’ staff look to employers for support

Global health and performance platform GoJoe has partnered with benefits and wellbeing hub Epassi UK to combine their digital and physical wellbeing services.

Employers across the UK and Europe will be offered a joined up benefits package that includes GoJoe’s gamified digital platform and Epassi UK’s network of discounted gyms and fitness classes.

NHS England research shows that a third of UK adults are not active enough to benefit their health and a quarter are classed as inactive. Physical inactivity is linked to chronic conditions, poor mental health, and absenteeism in the workplace.

A 2023 report by WPI Economics also found that 80 percent of workers are significantly more productive when they feel both physically and mentally well.

GoJoe’s platform blends gamified challenges, social connection, rewards, and real-time tracking to encourage employees to stay active. By combining this approach with Epassi UK’s physical wellbeing network, the partners want to enhance employer benefit packages while also delivering cost savings through bundled offerings.

GoJoe’s own findings suggest its platform is already delivering measurable results, with 62 percent of employees reporting increased productivity after using it. Nearly three quarters (73 percent) said their wellbeing improved within two weeks of engaging with the platform.

Will Turner, CEO and co-founder of GoJoe, said: “Since day one, our mission has been to get more people more active, and to feel the physical, mental, and social health benefits of doing just that. Partnering with Epassi UK enables us to offer businesses across the UK and Europe a more comprehensive benefit to help their people be more active, get healthier, and boost productivity.”

Matt Russell, CEO of Zest and Epassi UK, said: “Demand for physical and mental wellbeing support is growing. Providing good physical and mental wellbeing initiatives is a non-negotiable in modern workplaces, contributing to better overall employee propositions. This partnership will boost access to wellbeing benefits for workers and help to increase productivity, offering improved value for money to employees and employers alike.”
