Systemic shake-up: it takes HR to do things right

Mercedes-Benz Truck and Van franchise partner eStar is revamping its employee benefits offering in a bid to recruit more women.

As part of its enhanced package, the business, which is based in the North West of England and North Wales, is introducing what it calls “industry-leading maternity pay”.

Women who have been working for the company for two years or more will be able to enjoy three months of full pay and two months of half pay. It is also offering two weeks of full paternity pay and a baby gift pack for the new arrival.

Rolled out quarterly, the new benefits also include more annual leave, sick pay and compassionate leave days, which additionally covers pet bereavement. Employees can also use paid charity leave days in support of worthy causes.

Staff at eStar will also be able to take advantage of a cycle-to-work scheme, fresh fruit bowls and a financial reward for employee of the month.

Kate Howdon, head of HR at eStar, said: “To enhance all of our rewards and benefits this year is a real privilege and reflects the role that our great team has in keeping the commercial vehicle community moving. I’m especially pleased to introduce the rollout of enhanced maternity pay as we believe it is industry-leading, and genuinely demonstrates our passion for supporting women in the commercial vehicle sector.”

byBenefits Expert from Definite Article Media

As the professionals responsible for helping their organisations navigate NI hikes, rising employee stress levels and looming redundancies, the pressure on HR, reward and benefits teams has never been greater.

HR is expected to lead with strength and compassion. But who is supporting the supporters?

In this episode of Benefits Unboxed, co-hosts Claire Churchard, Carole Goldsmith and Steve Herbert explore the emotional and ethical pressures HR face today, from managing redundancies to implementing complex legislation. They discuss why HR’s own wellbeing may not be the first topic of conversation, the risks that poses to employers, and the practical steps businesses can take to better support the wellbeing of the people who support everyone else.

This conversation shines a light on the resilience of the profession and why looking after HR is not just the right thing to do, but a business imperative.
