Hybrid working has become the new normal for many UK organisations, but vocal business leaders and politicians still want staff back in the office.

If you read the headlines of many national newspapers, and listen to certain politicians, you’d be forgiven for thinking that many people had already returned to their workplaces full time.

But research shows that the post-pandemic trend for working remotely or at home is still going strong.

With HR expected to carry the can for organisational changes, we look at the tension between rhetoric and reality and size up hybrid working versus enforced workplace returns.

In the latest Benefits Unboxed podcast from Benefits Expert, we dig into what this mismatch means for HR, from balancing employee flexibility with business needs, to ensuring benefits packages remain fair and accessible. Legal risks are also pertinent as a recent employment tribunal ruled against an employer that had refused to accommodate reasonable work-from-home adjustments.

Join co-hosts Claire Churchard, editor of Benefits Expert, and Steve Herbert, senior consultant and industry veteran, for the second episode of a three-part series of 10-minute podcasts.

Listen to the first in this mini series, titled ‘Forget 10,000: the step count that really boosts employee wellbeing’, to discover the real optimum number of steps for better health, hear a counterintuitive fact about the 10k goal, and find out how many steps the co-hosts actually do.
