UK employers rethink benefits strategy amid soaring costs, survey confirms

Lem-uhn has launched a new scheme which allows employees to work from anywhere for up to 45 days a year.

The PR agency is now offering its staff the chance to carry out their duties from any country where the UK has a double taxation agreement.

According to the business, appetite for working abroad has significantly increased in recent months as many employers have reduced remote arrangements. It introduced the initiative to help boost employee happiness.

Founder and managing director of Lem-uhn, Riannon Palmer, said: “Employee happiness is not a priority for PR agencies. At Lem-uhn we’re changing this. We believe happier employees deliver the best results for our clients. The introduction of our Work from Anywhere scheme is the latest step we’ve taken to create a happier type of agency. Creativity is a key skill in public relations. A happier mind, adventure and experiencing cultures provide the perfect opportunity to feed our employee’s creativity. I look forward to the day when schemes that create a positive work environment for employees are the norm.”

The scheme is the latest in a number of wellbeing initiatives implemented by the firm.

Last year, the company launched a menstrual policy providing paid leave for menstruation, menopause and miscarriage, on top of its existing sick leave entitlements. Staff accrue an extra 10 days of paid personal leave per year for menstruation, menopause discomfort or in the event of a miscarriage.

The business also offers workers two wellness days every year which allows them to take a day off to prioritise their mental wellbeing, giving their employer only one day of notice.

As the professionals responsible for helping their organisations navigate NI hikes, rising employee stress levels and looming redundancies, the pressure on HR, reward and benefits teams has never been greater.

HR is expected to lead with strength and compassion. But who is supporting the supporters?

In this episode of Benefits Unboxed, co-hosts Claire Churchard, Carole Goldsmith and Steve Herbert explore the emotional and ethical pressures HR face today, from managing redundancies to implementing complex legislation. This conversation shines a light on the resilience of the profession and why looking after HR is not just the right thing to do, but a business imperative.
