L&G launches one-stop wellbeing app to extend benefits access

Legal & General (L&G) has launched an all-in-one, single sign-in, health and wellbeing app for employers with group protection policies, expanding employee access to a wide range of preventative support services.

L&G said that the app will make benefits available through group protection available to all employees and their immediate families, regardless of the chosen group protection product or percentage of workforce covered.

The digital platform, called Spark, has been developed in partnership with Spectrum.Life to offer guided, personalised access to all the services included under L&G’s group life, group income protection and group critical illness products. For example, 24/7 GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments, mental health assessments and support for navigating adult and elder care needs. It also includes several new additions, including cancer, menopause and heart health support at no extra cost.

The platform also includes MatchTech, an intelligent booking engine that helps users identify their symptoms and guides them to the right care more quickly and effectively.

Among the new features are enhanced cancer awareness and nurse support, which includes risk assessments, digital screening tools, and personalised 1-2-1 virtual sessions with cancer nurses through Perci Health – the only provider in this space backed by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Two additional pathways, focusing on heart health and menopause, have also been added via the CONNECTPlus app. This tool helps users self-manage conditions and can be used to inform GP or specialist consultations. It is designed to support HR professionals and line managers to better understand how chronic conditions affect work and life, supporting appropriate workplace adjustments in line with the Equality Act 2010.

James Walker, head of product and proposition – group protection at L&G, said: “Thanks to Spark, we can now extend our amazing prevention and early intervention support – plus some valuable new ones – to workforces and their immediate families.

“This will bring positive benefits to everyone. For individuals, helping empower them to further manage their own health and wellbeing. For employers, helping reduce absence and presenteeism while improving satisfaction.”

Stephen Costello, CEO and co-founder at Spectrum.Life, added: “We are transforming the way employees – where their employer has an L&G Group Protection policy – access mental health and primary care services. Our MatchTech engine ensures people can reach the right support faster.”

Benefits Unboxed – Wellbeing: HR is supporting everyone, but who’s supporting HR?
byBenefits Expert from Definite Article Media

As the professionals responsible for helping their organisations navigate NI hikes, rising employee stress levels and looming redundancies, the pressure on HR, reward and benefits teams has never been greater.

HR is expected to lead with strength and compassion. But who is supporting the supporters?

In this episode of Benefits Unboxed, co-hosts Claire Churchard, Carole Goldsmith and Steve Herbert explore the emotional and ethical pressures HR face today, from managing redundancies to implementing complex legislation. They discuss why HR’s own wellbeing may not be the first topic of conversation, the risks that poses to employers, and the practical steps businesses can take to better support the wellbeing of the people who support everyone else.

This conversation shines a light on the resilience of the profession and why looking after HR is not just the right thing to do, but a business imperative.
