Verlingue has acquired Gloucester-based Brunsdon Employee Benefits, an independently owned employee benefits specialist.

Verlingue  says the agreement, which is pending regulatory approval, supports Verlingue’s recent expansion in the Southwest and the Midlands and greatly strengthens its employee benefits capabilities in the SME and mid-corporate market.

Brunsdon Employee Benefits offers plans and guidance to a wide range of clients throughout the UK.

The entire Brunsdon Employee Benefits team will transfer to Verlingue, and Seb Merritt, the current managing director, will assume responsibility for overseeing employee benefits and reporting to CEO Mike Latham.

Mark Pugh, who is now in charge of employee benefits, will take advantage of the chance to let go of prior operational duties and focus on developing and executing Verlingue’s multinational, major client, and partnership offerings.

The purchase comes after a brand-new general insurance office for the Midlands and South West opened its doors in Birmingham.

Verlingue CEO Mike Latham said: “This is an exciting acquisition for Verlingue which not only expands our footprint in the employee benefits market but builds on our recent expansion as a group in the Midlands and South West.  Our strategy is to continue to grow our employee benefits operation.”

Verlingue incoming head of employee benefits Seb Merritt said: “The whole of the Brunsdon Employee Benefits team are excited about joining forces with Verlingue as we truly believe that our improved scale and service capabilities will benefit our clients and colleagues immensely.”

The US DEI Rollback: What It Means for UK Employers
byBenefits Expert from Definite Article Media

The US retreat from diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) is making waves far beyond the country's borders. In the wake of President Trump’s executive order abolishing DEI across federal government departments, global firms like Goldman Sachs and Accenture have rapidly dialled down their own efforts.

The influence is being felt in the UK too. However, the UK operates under a different legal framework. It has stronger workplace protections and a government actively looking to enhance employee rights through its Make Work Pay agenda. But as US firms reposition their approach to DEI, UK subsidiaries could find themselves caught between conflicting priorities.

In the latest Benefits Unboxed podcast, co-hosts Claire Churchard, editor of Benefits Expert, Carole Goldsmith, HR director at the Royal Horticultural Society, and Steve Herbert, industry veteran and reward and benefits consultant, discuss how the US DEI rollback might impact UK businesses.
