Vitality has appointed a new CEO for its health insurance business as the benefits provider looks to transform its growing business further this year.

Dr Arun Thiyagarajan takes over the role of CEO from Dr Keith Klintworth with a remit to revamp the way the provider offers insurance, services and member engagement.

Prior to joining Vitality, Thiyagarajan was the global healthcare transformation director at Bupa. He also held other roles there including medical director for UK health clinics, responsible officer, and general manager of Bupa Global and UK health clinics. He was a general practitioner and associate/managing director at Hedena Health in Oxford before he worked at Bupa. Thiyagarajan is also a non-executive director for the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Following the announcement, Klintworth will continue to serve as a consultant for Vitality following his 14 years as CEO.

Neville Koopowitz, CEO at Vitality, said: “Arun joins Vitality at a very important time for the business. Having seen considerable growth in recent years, we start 2025 with more members than ever before and a commitment to continue to provide them with an innovative range of health support across prevention, primary and secondary care.

“Arun will be instrumental in our health business, further transforming the way we offer insurance, the services we provide and how we engage with our members, all helping them to live longer in better health.”

Thiyagarajan commented: “I am pleased to be joining Vitality this week, in what promises to be a very exciting year for the business.

“Vitality’s Shared Value approach to insurance, whereby their members, wider society alongside the insurer, gain value from everything they do, is completely unique. I look forward to taking forward these principles as we further grow the health business and being part of Vitality’s future.”

byBenefits Expert from Definite Article Media

As the professionals responsible for helping their organisations navigate NI hikes, rising employee stress levels and looming redundancies, the pressure on HR, reward and benefits teams has never been greater.

HR is expected to lead with strength and compassion. But who is supporting the supporters?

In this episode of Benefits Unboxed, co-hosts Claire Churchard, Carole Goldsmith and Steve Herbert explore the emotional and ethical pressures HR face today, from managing redundancies to implementing complex legislation. They discuss why HR’s own wellbeing may not be the first topic of conversation, the risks that poses to employers, and the practical steps businesses can take to better support the wellbeing of the people who support everyone else.

This conversation shines a light on the resilience of the profession and why looking after HR is not just the right thing to do, but a business imperative.
